http://www.flickr.com/photos/crow/3549098327/ Some nice Flickr shots taken at the Blank Club; I like the red lighting in some of them.
My good friend saw them in Oakland and...I think that's all I have; we talked a lot about it and she had many thoughts, but she's going to write about it somewhere else, so I'll save most of it for her and link when she does it.

Hadn't seen this press release (?) before (it's popped up in identical form, except for the fact that everyone spells the name differently, on a couple news-type blogs). I found it Googling for "Kristeenyoung El Paso;" I was curious about a reference in a MySpace comment to an interview of some kind related to that show. Found this, but not that.
(I have a bad habit of checking every band's MySpace page way too often, and I Google everything at all times. For the moment I will not apologize for this.)
Anyway, there was word on the E-Mail list at some point of the "official" release being in June, and this seems to back things up - for some reason, the album we own is technically not yet released. I wonder why.
Quotes from the article:
"A lot of the songs are about the audience, too, as we were on tour, solidly, for about two years."
Interesting... I am trying to think of which songs could/would be about the "audience"
"I think our voices caress and smack each other in all the right ways."
I don't think people use the phrase 'caress and smack' enough in their daily lives. I think we should all try to use 'caress and smack' somehow tomorrow at work/school/wherever and see what happens.
This is a big theory of mine. I think "Everybody Wants Me To Cry" most definitely; a bit of "Depression Contest," and a big part of "He's Sickened By My Crude Emotion," in which she's addressing "him," and them, and him-through-them, and them-through-him, through various sung and written notes.
I'm totally of the party that says that, in the parts of "Crude Emotion" that could be read either as sex or performance, it's not that they're about performance but aha secretly about sex! - or vice versa. It truly goes both ways. And the great thing about that is that, once you introduce this level of ambiguity, any line can be taken as referring to either one, even the relatively clear-cut ones, which even introduces the idea that the audience kind of is "him;" they perform his own personality.
I feel like I've said this before but maybe I've just thought a lot about it. "My Crude Emotion" really fascinates me.
"Sandy, would you please caress and smack these files for me before tomorrow?"
"...So he comes to my desk at four forty-five and asks if I could caress and smack the files for him by tomorrow. I said take this job and shove it."
PS also, yes, that is what the voices do, I like those words. I like how the hard consonants in Stump's part -"births in earthen dirt," etc- are hit really hard.
As for EWMTC, I can see that. There was probably a mad rush of supportive e-mails in attempt to comfort at one point, I would imagine. But I think there were many meanies whose goal was her DIScomfort. Bastards.
"He plays Kiss-Slap with a phrase"
'Kiss and slap' ; 'caress and smack'
How about 'Fondle and Stomp'; 'Lick and Kick' ?
Or this song could be about performing sex as performance art.
Or maybe that things "said" via the keyboard (shooting from the hip) are a lot different than what is physically spoken or what actually occurs in person. I imagine that through a note here or a note there (a letter, or e-mail) one could romanticize but in real life could diminish into only small talk. Stomping ground can box your ears, but a note floats in the air.... as if the relationship never really existed physically in the first place, not in real terms... it only existed, sexually or otherwise in letters. The "crude" emotion is Love.
That's what I read into these lyrics... I'm probably way off in left field somewhere though.
Bruises on my wrist/I cannot resist?
Yeah, that's an interesting point about the keyboard vs. voice. I've never really figured out that couplet - I think my brain just changes the "but" to and "and" out of sheer confusion, even as I'm sure there's something to get in the distinction between talking "St. Louis" and "shooting from the hip." Like there's something specific St. Louis means to KY that I don't understand.
As for the song being about an entirely epistolary
romance, it's funny how I could simultaneously buy that and
maintain that the song is pansexual and all-embracing. Then again,
there's a school of thought that says those two situations are hardly
incompatible.
What does "box your ears" mean? I've only heard it once before, in an old French movie, and I didn't get it then either.
It's an old expression that means, usually playfully "I'm going to hit you" like "I'm going to box your ears if you do that again"
Dickens references it 'Household Words' having 'his ears boxed'
Boxing to mean being hit by the fist.
I remember my mom saying that to me when I was little.
More KY photos uploaded yesterday on Flickr (of their tour). Very nice.

They are very very nice. Thanks for the link KYK
These are at DNA Lounge. I LOVE that guy's photos. He's captured these very unconventional moments...maybe my favorite KY live shots ever (though I will always love MAG's bubble-dress pix, and again, the ones Devil Girl and her friend took are incredible. We have been well-treated to tour pics lately!).
Btw, if nobody got back to you, PX: they're highly worth looking at, DG's shots, and I think KYK put some up on Best Of All Things. I urged her a little to put them on Flickr, but I'm sure she'd friend you if you asked and you could see there.
