I stumbled upon this last night and thought it was interesting. A review of Enemy from '99...
http://www.furia.com/page.cgi?type=twas&id=twas0226#entry2

Also, there's this site that has a reviews of Enemy and some concerts (past fashion!)...
http://www.smoe.org/dgk/current.html

I love peering into the past.

EDIT:
The second site has a review from Ectofest '99... and refers to Happy Rhodes' voice as having an "ethereal upper range Kate Bush/Tori Amos/Kristeen Young style..." Bless them.

I wonder who in the hell the Ectophiles WERE. They were some kind of magic 90s mailing list that wrote about all the music I like now... I mean, they were Kristeen fans, but I also saw references there to an awesome 90s band called the Loud Family that I love (who grew out of the remnants of Game Theory) - the two groups couldn't have less in common, except for their consistent excellence, and their fans (and I think even their manager) being on that list.

Yes, I'm very fond of both of those sites. I wonder where those people are now (looks like furia.com is still active, but much less so and s/he didn't keep up with KY). I looked up the guy from smoe.org; he's a pro writer (science fiction), which would explain his impressive clarity and style.

I don't always agree with these reviews (I can't get behind furia's statements about nihilism, because I don't agree that KY was trying to present herself in such a way) but I love that they're basically thoughts on the music, rather than immediate judgements on the music, or critiques of the person. That's incredibly rare at any time. And the glimpse into KY in the late 90s is very interesting. I wish so that I could've seen them then, so I could watch them change with time.

I love the Ectophiles. I've learned so much from them, and loving going through the archives and seeing KY's mailing list posts from years past.

Yah, I didn't care much for Furia's review either. It was much too assuming and judgemental of anything slightly dark.

I just realized the Ectophiles list a) still exists and b) may or not actually be run by Woj.

These archives are pretty neat, but the past is exhausting. All these extreme opinions and excited descriptions of shows have been compressed and condensed; years of writing and emotion, packaged small and put into storage.

OK, I return now, and see that that last post was a single tiny tear. Sorry. Let's continue in our mutual quest toward me not overwhelming the board with my sudden personal angst.
