Since the M show, in Oakland, has been cancelled, KRISTEENYOUNG will now play at:

The DNA Lounge (375 11th St., San Francisco) at 10:30. Be there on time because it will be a short set. If you say you are there to see KRISTEENYOUNG, you'll get $5 off admission. The party is being thrown by the Vau de Vire society and looks to be very colourful.

Good. I'm so glad she found somewhere to play!

Me too, but I wasn't that surprised that she went out there and had a plan B.  STrong little warrior type chick as she is.... if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry not to give much of a show report, but I'm emotional in a way I would feel weird trying to articulate. Very short, *very* good set to a surprised and thrilled audience at a midsize club. Completely different from a Morrissey/KY show. You should do anything within your power to see her in a smaller place, if you haven't already.

Understandable!!

But what was she wearing?  Gotta know, gotta know....

Just saw in a semi-reliable website that Morrissey was at DNA Lounge last night.... with a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap on.

hahah ok, Chrissy and I made that last part up.  No baseball cap.

A very cool photo from last night's performance:

As you can possibly see, it is the same black evening gown as at Santo's.

I don't want to talk too much about Morrissey's presence, because it was pleasing in a way that has nothing whatsoever to do with the fan drama which is no doubt accompanying any public response to it, and in opposition to which one is always implicitly writing when writing in public, unfortunately. I will write a blog entry about the show and link to it here, but first I have to drive for 9 hours.

It was extraordinary though. Oh, just because this is probably the kind of fan-detail that I won't get around to saying anywhere else: there was some video footage playing behind her (Lili St. Cyr dancing during "Everybody Wants Me To Cry" and a strange old film during "Immigrant Song") which was a very part of the show, and made sense at the club, which had been playing old cartoons on the big screens before her set.  The venue was a midsize club having a circus-themed night and there were some acrobats and a DJ performing before her, very enjoyable in a low-key way.

Btw, I just searched flickr, and I think I know exactly who took that photo and stuck on the snide little caption. XD There were two gals standing about there, and they were gossiping enthusiastically and well-informedly and quite bitchily before the show. Happily I believe they were alone, and certainly didn't reflect the mood of the room...

The person who wrote that "Let's harass Morrissey using Twitter" thing sounds like a huge idiot.

"I caused Morrissey to leave the DNA Lounge by obsessively tweeting while half-naked from my recliner in Palo Alto."

I'm so sure. What a jackass.

Awesome pic.  Thanks for the show update!

Nice pic---looks like a great club.  Some bands are just meant to be seen in smaller venues, and KY is one of them.

So I have written nothing, and it's now like 3:30 a.m., but I wanted to add another thing I remembered: Kristeen began the show by quoting Shakespeare's Cleopatra:

"All strange and terrible events are welcome, but comforts we despise!"

And the neck of her gown, when seen close up, has a stylized snake head incorporated into it.

Sounds very beautiful....

I just want to say one thing about Morrissey being at the gig, or maybe two things.  This is just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I think someone can lose their voice and not have to remain in bed.  It is possible that you DAMAGE your voice further if you force it by singing anyway.

Also, I think it was a nice thing he did, to come to the DNA Lounge to be supportive, despite the crap he took from venturing out on the same night he was supposed to perform.  Speaks volumes.

That is all.

http://cerebrum.dnalounge.com/archive/ This won't be up forever, it's low-quality and there's no real way to save it, but you can hear part of KY's set here. (The stream is a bit strange and didn't load the beginning right away for me - there are at least a few songs, maybe all of them, it might still just be malfunctioning.)

I'm also hoping they'll put up pics - they've caught up to the date of the show now.

THANKS RACHEL!

It's odd... like a sound-activated recorder.

"Check... we're missing a drummer."

She sounds ill, which wasn't nearly as noticeable in all of the energy of the room. I hope she didn't have a touch of what M had. :-/

Definitely NOT ill. The recording from the DNA Clubs soundboard is just that.
A "board recoarding", which if you are an artist, then you know that they are the worst and are unrepresentative
of the true sound of the show. What you actually hear is the mix that is being sent to Kristeens monitor.
Her vocal mic cable had to be switched halfway through the show as well, because it kept cutting in and out as
you can hear on the initial introduction.
