I am posting this really great performance of "Life's Not Short" (very poor video, sadly) for two reasons:
1. The obvious
2. Much though I love the Dubliners, I'm sick of looking at that set of Sixties beardos on the Headlines page. My fault. My atonement.
Thanks for that, Rachel! I enjoyed it despite the crowd's talking... why can't people just be quiet and simply EXPERIENCE someting?
Anything at all... brushing one's teeth can be quite enjoyable when one takes the time to be in the moment (teeth are so strong... i wonder how well this toothpaste works... when did the tradition of daily brushing come about... i can hear the brushing sounds in the back of my head, awesome...).
/end rant and run-on sentence
this is really good. really visceral... even amongst the Chatty Cathys. I often wonder how a performer conquers through those types of crowds (and worse) and still keep up that true emotion..... art :') lol
I love this song - it's like a slow makeout
It sound so good when her mic is turned up like that too
OK, I must have made everyone uncomfortable with my slow makeout comment.
ha.
Oh, no! Hahahaha I think it is a beautiful analogy.
Don't worry. We have all heard "Incubator" and can no longer sense discomfort on the normal scale, anyway.
(I was amused that the Decemberists publicized their latest with a free download of "The Rake's Song," which has a similar theme. 10 more and I can do a mix.)
Good point, Rachel!
(I should go listen to it; I love them... and the thought of them doing an Incubator-esque sioong is wonderful.)
haha
So, um.... During the Moz show last night he had just finished a song and as the next one started I heard Kristeen's unmistakable soprano prelude into "That's How People..." and of course, I start making huge claps and screams in loud obnoxious approval... (yes I'm goofy, fuck it) But I was wondering if she's getting royalties for that, yes?
It is. XD The narrator of the song is pretty unrepentant about murdering his sprogs, and is similarly charismatic, though it's played much more villainously. I don't really care for the Decemberists, but I have to admit they are one of those bands where I can like them or not like them, but their talent and stones are unquestionable.
I'm delighted that you did that, KYK. I don't know what the legal situation is with that kind of thing. Hmm...
Maybe they can use the little prelude whenever they want. Curious.

Dude, speaking of use without payment...!
How annoying is this? Really, I can't imagine this is a coincidence - a pink romper, even a pink romper with letters on it, is one thing - but a dress made of plastic bubbles?! Particularly since the bubble dress was worn on Letterman and on major city dates of the Moz tour, so it was quite well-exposed.
I know genius steals - KY takes elements from high fashion in some of her designs (I think someone has previously found a coat with a NO which may have been the inspiration for the KY romper?) - but she heavily modifies and exaggerates elements of these things, making her own projects, rather than seriously, straightforwardly, just ripping off someone's highly singular trademark outfit and parading around in it all "tee hee! It is aMAzing that I write my own inane power pop, and I'm much more famous than the person I'm taking this from, so I'll get away with it for-e-var!" like Mlle. GaGa is doing in this image.
What the fuck.
WTH half-ass contraption is that? What a ga-gawd awful mess. Seriously, this pisses me off.
gaga lists David Bowie and Morrissey as some of her top influences on her MS page. Semi-Precious Weapons is one of her top friends. She knows exactly what she's doing - At first I thought the outfit might have been accidentally copied. She's gross.
What the fucking fuck?
It must feel so good ripping off someone like Kristeen who isn't well known enough to imprint her style on the mainstream. Bubbles... who fucking knew? Kristeen Young did.
"We're not going to lie -- had another songstress tried to pull off this look, we're pretty sure we'd have real issues with it." Are you fucking KIDDING ME?
But I won't let it bother me because I know who deserves all the credit.
PS.

Even though, like Rachel said, KY turns them into something completely different (& I like her versions better than the designers' originals).
GaGa looks freaking creepy in her dress.

She also wore it while playing a themed piano. This has crossed over to fully weird.
And yes, someone does point out the KY rip in the comments here, as well (though the fact that people are mocking the thing pretty furiously may have kept the remarks down).
The annoying thing about when this happens is that their intentions and images have almost nothing in common, so one woman's awesome idea becomes another's random wacky bit of imagery.
