I was just curious...Does anyone know how Baby Jeff came to be known as "Baby" Jeff? I don't mean to be nosy.... I just always wondered about that.
I always thought because he was younger than Kristeen, but I have no idea if that's true. I'm still not sure of their ages either, so I could be wrong.
theres an interview out there i believe that states why.... i dont remember what it was. im going to look that up now
well i gave up looking for now. all i can really recall (so take this with a grain of a grain of salt) that jeff was given the name baby by the daughter of a famous drummer who shares the same moniker; because jeff reminded her of her fathers drumming style. i think thats it. i mightve been in a total critical paranoic stage while reading that so this information might be a total figment of my imagination....
Yes, I remember something about Bonham's daughter saying Jef's style reminded her of John or Jason's style, something like that....??? Isn't John the dad and Jason the son. Interesting, thanks for the feedback!
huzzah! found it. end of second paragraph. http://www.discovery-records.com/product-ST34420/YOUNG-KRISTEEN/Breasticles-feat-David-Bowie.htm
Hey E! We must have just posted at the same time, because I didn't see your post until after I posted mine just now.
Thank you for finding this!!
I had heard this before, but I couldn't remember where I read it. So, John Bonham's daughter's name is Zoe Bonham and she once said that Jeff's style reminded her of a "modern-day John Bonham".... Huge compliment, for sure. Jason, John's son, also played drums and actually played with Led Zep in place of his dad in a reunion show. (John died in 1980, alcohol poisoning)
So, do you think that the "Baby" nickname comes from "Baby Bonham" or something like that, which originated with Zoe's compliment?
Hmmmm...... interesting. Thanks again, Ev!
Ok so this thread got me curious about the Baby nickname so I just asked him. It comes from a English woman who was sort of thier manager in her spare time and they were riding the bus in London and she was a little drunk and they were talking about family and Jeff is the youngest and the woman kept calling him "Buybee Jayffff" in a slured south London accent and laughing her head off. KY finding this hilarious would imitate this lady whenever possible and thats how it started.
Thanks! Funny story. I guess I could have asked him myself, but I didn't know if it was a personal thing or not.
I think he's a brilliant drummer. Rum pa pum pum.
