You know what, Chrissy and Rachel, I think you are right about the lyrics.
I will say, that I think its a wonderfully strong song and I don't find that the Stump guy ads anything to it - but nor does he really detract from it. I like it just the same, though preferring the KY solo version, in the end. Just my thoughts.
I've listened to it 4 or 5 times now ... and I really like it. I wonder if some behind the scenes KY/Stump photos will surface via T.V. I enjoy those raw candid shots. Or do two duetting vocalists even need to be in the same room now-a-days to record together. (Britney and Timberlake come to mind )
The same person who leaked the song saying "Morrissey" was to duet with KY put up lyrics as well. I'm not sure if they are acurate though.

Life's been cold
So I've grown a concrete coat
That's what it takes
Life's been choked
So I broke 3,000 throats
That's what it takes, dear
Half sound, half drowned
The only movements toward the ground
But births in earthen dirt
Domine fimus
That's what it takes
You feel a low flame memory
Summer long ago
Astride, you glide and cry
Open faced, open
That's what it takes, dear
I don't want your arms
I don't need your march for the dead of heart
I don't want your hug of war
I don't need your

Not sure if you've seen this blog about Duet yet?
oops, I keep referring to the duet by calling it "Duet", dammit.
I keep reading these Amanda Palmer references and I frankly dont get it. As much as I LOVE Amanda Palmer and how much of a GREAT show she puts on (seriously the most entertaining thing I have ever seen. ever.); I just dont get the comparisson. Just because pianos are involved doesnt mean they are the same or even close. It's like comparing every artist that uses a guitar... hello.
also: If you have the opportunity to see Amanda Palmer live on her current tour; GO SEE IT! Despite the many hot topic teens (i used to work at hot topic so i know) there; its well worth the about 25 bucks to see her do her thing (and much much more) live.
I wonder why people don't compare her, vocally, to Elizabeth Fraser. I think their style of singing is pretty similar, or more so than Kate Bush or Bjork or whoever else people mention.
Palmer and I had a rough time originally, but now she's really grown on me.
Obviously the solo version is better, but I think Patrick adds something to it.
But because of that darn sample I always think it's going to fade out at the chorus.
