Hi Ya’ll:
We got back to the hotel at 2am last night – the wakeup call to catch the 6:20am flight was 4:30am but I think I might have deliriously answered it, hung up and went back to sleep – can’t recall even receiving said wakeup call. Oops. We missed our flight back to North Carolina so we had to rent a car and drive home.
That aside, Edgefest was phenomenal. I enjoyed all 8 hours of it.
Set List:
Stop Thinking
Everyone Wants Me to Cry
Life’s Not Short It’s Sooo Long
Depression Contest
9
Mixed Kids
Touch Tongues
Dawn of My D Day
It’s All Just Imagined
London Cry
I think this list is out of order too – sorry!
I think there was at least another one other new song – hadn’t heard it before. Baby played FAST in it.
KristeenYoung went on about 10:30 (approximately?) and played for about an hour or so. It was so surreal seeing them again so close, I’ve seen them play with Morrissey before but that was in the middle of a general admission arena with 50 or so people in front of me. I’ve seen so many pictures, but here they were finally in front of me in 3D.
KY was pitch perfect – how does she do this? (rhetorical question)
She had monitor problems and couldn’t hear herself – why does this happen to them so often? (Not rhetorical - I really would like to know.) However, 1st row could hear her so selfishly, I was happy.
Baby Jef’s arms were a blur – his talent seems effortless really.
During 2nd? song I think it was, his monitor blew out and had to be replaced, then during the 5th? song, he must have beat the hell out of the snare drum, because he blew a hole in it (literally shredded and gaping hole) so this was replaced too.
Several “I Love You Baby Jef” exclamations and one heartfelt “We Love You Kristeen” - The audience was hugely supportive, patient and respectful. KY started the show even though she had the monitor problem because she said she didn’t want us to have to wait anymore. No one was complaining though. I think we were all transfixed on how interesting it is to see the process of a favorite band work together adjusting settings and volumes, trying to get the sound check right. I mean, all we ever hear is the finished product... when we get to see the effort that comes before the “magic” happens – even though as frustrating as it is to them, and us, it is still pretty fascinating.
When she sang “Life’s Not Short, It’s Soo Long” – everyone was silent, taking it in. I really didn’t want to sound dopey about this, but it was moving. Maybe she was thinking during the song, “Damn those monitors” but hell if you could tell because her performance was beautiful. The even vibrato, the dynamics – just so FREAKIN MOVING, for crying out loud.
What She Wore:
Knee-length, form fitting, tightly tailored, GOLD sequins? not sequins, but something shiny. Tiny tassels from top of shoulder crossed diagonally to waist. Dress had an accent placed over the heart of 10 or so Gold discs, size of CD’s, all cut in half so that when fanned out in a circle, resembled a circular saw blade brooch with defined edges (in honor of Edgefest – pun intended? Do I read into everything or what.) Gold elbow-length fingerless gloves. Iridescent cream-colored tights/hose, chunky pumps with ankle straps. Flawless. Yet, while in her dress, she got down on hands and knees to pull her monitor across the floor before the show started. :-)
Pictures:
This kills me, but I didn’t take ANY! The Fest said that no cameras would be allowed, so I tried to respect that – however I noticed that some cameras were snuck in anyway, and a couple of people told me they would send me some. I’ll post them as soon as I get them!
P.S.
IAMX was also FABULOUS.
