Halfway Across The Atlantic Ocean and Protestant have been added to Kristeen Young's myspace site.
Wow - what beautiful songs... Thanks for the heads-up. I think we all scampered over there to the KY myspace page as soon as we read about the new songs that were just added. I can't get enough!
The last time I saw Kristeen young in Utah just a few shows before the incident, she played that song with that extra ending. I tried asking her about it, but she couldn't hear me and she had to finish picking up her things. I remember I told her, "I'll see you in Florida". I never did :(.
"Halfway Across" references two Dorothies, Dorothy Parker ("enough rope") and probably the bridge to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
Halfway Across The Atlantic Ocean
The day…
that it became…
clear…
was…
the first time that I saw you for the 150th time,
but can you blame me?
I was reaching, reaching…
halfway across the Atlantic Ocean.
The place…
it socked my square jaw face…
my toe had dipped to rate
and you grabbed me, in up to my waist.
Contrary to unpopular opinion, the water was welcoming warm,
and we slid easily,
wrapped up and reaching, reaching…
halfway across the Atlantic Ocean.
GONE, GONE, GONE: I have enough rope when you’re
gone, gone, gone. The oven’s cozy when you’re
gone, gone, gone. Prescriptions filled when you are
gone.
The time…I grope to find
that there is no sign…
with bottomless hope, I’ll dive.
Then, I will swim ‘til my limbs are numb and dim,
With a paralysed hip, I’ll slip, fingertips to sea lip.
Eternally reaching, more than
halfway across the semantic ocean.
GONE, GONE, GONE: I have enough rope when you’re
gone, gone, gone. The oven’s cozy when you’re
gone, gone, gone. Prescriptions filled when you are
gone, gone, gone. It’s cocked and loaded when you’re
gone, gone, gone. My knives get sharpened when you’re
gone, gone, gone. It tastes like almonds when you’re
gone, gone, gone. The traffic’s playful when you’re
gone. Take flying leaps when you are
gone. Autoerotic when you’re
gone. See, I’ll be fine when you are
gone.

I LOVE THIS ONE. It tastes like almonds refers to the smell and taste of my all time favorite nourishment of choice: Potassium Cynanide
Ah, I was wondering where the almond taste came from. I asked my mom and she was quite disturbed. I love these lyrics!
It's a beautiful piece, but lyrics like this make me worry for her :(
Aw... she'll be fine! ;)
At least she'd be tasting almonds instead of acid.
Razors pain you,
Rivers are damp,
Acids stain you,
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful,
Nooses give,
Gas smells awful.
You might as well live
~Dorothy Parker
Huh?....looks like you hit a nerve there, kyK. (??)
But I think that was a great find....not sure why this space would be held to a higher standard than 99.9999% of the internet at large. Thought your post was relevant and interesting.
What post? What happened? And because this space is closely watched, I'm sure..
Pretty sure admin was posting a policy in response to a thing a couple days ago when someone non-band-affiliated posted a bunch of material from Music For... without permission. (The posts have since been deleted.) I think Parker's poem must be in the dying days of its copyright, if it's still under copyright at all, so that's probably not it (if I understand you right).
ahhh....OK, perhaps I stand corrected.
I assumed it was about the Parker stuff, but happy if I am mistaken.
Let's hope. Thanks!
The posts in question were made by me, Aaron Shloss, under the name Boycycle. I am a former penpal of K(ristine) Y(oung) who penned a review of her album The Orphans in 2007, and thus began a very drawn-out, detached correspondence with the singer, at HER behest. It was during the course of that time (spring 2007 - fall 2008) my priveledge to receive "inside" information on upcoming tour plans, release dates, recording information, inside scoops, song previews, etc. I was very grateful to have been in this postion and never took it lightly or for granted, and always held it in the strictest confidence. For the most part.
I do not now, nor have I ever, pretended to be "friends" with KY, or close to her in ANY way other than, as I said, where the subject matter revolved around her, Morrissey, and the music therebetween. I only underline that because I do NOT want to seem like I am seeking any infamy, vain-glory, or desire to be seen as a fountain of gossip. Which I am NOT. I do NOT have a personal relationship with the woman, of any kind, and I never did, nor did I seek one.
As my dealings with Ms. Young gradually turned sour for reasons it is not appropriate to state publicly, I began to feel ridiculous clutching the modest treasure trove of information I had...which admittedly, in perspective, was very little...the complete lyrics to the new LP and an MP3 of the song "Duet," unfinished and unmastered, sent to me by KY a few months back.
Here on PTYC, over the weekend, I posted a teaser-edit I made of Duet, as well as a full, non-sequential tracklisting and some yet-unreleased lyrics to the new LP. Unless a one minute, forty-five second clip of a song in progress constitutes "a whole bunch of material" from Strippers, then I'm actually guilty of very little.
Regarding the tracklisting/lyric info I posted, this material had been given to me by KY herself, who gave me them KNOWING that it was my intention to post them on a MySpace fanpage I briefly ran, but then she asked me to withdraw them, which I did...(this was months ago.)
I only reposted them here because I felt they would be of interest to the fellow KY fans on this board. I would NEVER post any of KY's music in its entirety, out of respect for the artist. I simply felt with the rough "Duet" MP3 that I was sitting on a diamond and I didn't want to hoard it, so figuring that the LP would be out soon anyway, I posted a brief edit, as well as the other lyrics, for everyone to chew on while waiting eagerly for the record. In retrospect, it was not my place to do this, but hand-to-God, I believed in NO WAY would it diminish anticipation for the record. In fact, I asumed that because of the quality of the lyrics, it would only make the anticipation greater.
My other posts were an audio interview with Tony Visconti from a Chicago Public Radio show, and a text interview that I had done and written up with Jeff White.
All my posts were complimentary, non-malicious, and non-exploitative. I revealed NO information about myself or where I had gotten the Strippers material, nor about how or in what capacity I knew Ms. Young; so let it not be said that I was seeking personal credit or glory.
Within roughly 24-36 hours of my PTYC posts I received a voicemail from a very exasperated-sounding KY begging me to call her back about something "very important" and the next thing I know my PTYC membership had been deactivated and my posts removed. ALL of them. Even the interview ones.
While I admit that I should have been more prudent in considering the MFHSAOO-L info/material, it was NEVER a goal of mine to betray confidence placed in me by Ms. Young, and it was ONLY done in celebration and excited, fanboy anticipation of the record. It was improper, I'll admit that, but I still maintain that my motives were borne of excitement over the record, and NOT a desire to hurt or betray KY in ANY way.
It is my understanding that some, or all, of the PTYC moderators are also connected to M-Solo, which explains the pathetic anal sycophancy which dictates their guidelines regarding forum posts and threads. On that note, I'll assume this post (and membership) will be also soon be deleted as well, as I'm just a "troll." (they seem to like that word.)
I can understand removing the "Duet" link and the lyric postings, but why they would kill my Jeff White interview post and remove the Tony Visconti audio post, both of which, I felt, were very insightful regarding the working mind of this great artist, and neither of which had ANYTHING to do with the leaked Strippers info, is beyond me, other than perhaps to "teach me a lesson." (Internet moderators are tough guys! Watch out, kids!)
If anyone wants further information regarding this bullshit misunderstanding, I can be contacted at bicycletragedy@aol.com.
