I don't hear it, but goodness knows this album is full of enough sonic subtleties that I'm probably missing many.

PX, you truly have a better ear, or better speakers, than I if you can make out a single word of the spoken part of Protestant. I like that it's mostly submerged, and am certain it's never meant to be heard, but I'm still curious about what it says.

Btw, everybody, KYK put up some pix of the Vintage Vinyl in-store on her Best Of All Things MySpace page:

They both look very commanding and in-their-element, don't they? These photos have a unique warmth to my eyes.

Hmm.. I hear something every time.  I don't hear a name or anything, but I hear something (insert italics on the 'something'.)

Phantom Photo was so kind to let me post the pix.  And they look great.  I like the harsh contrast of the black and white.

Speaking of contrasting color, I noticed there was no white eyeliner this time.  And she wore her red licorice belt.

Yes, they do look commanding.  Great stage presence.  They complement each other aesthetically.

I'm so looking forward to next week Seattle and Portland shows... and I'm excited to meet Rachel too.

P.S.
One of my favorite parts is the end (of EWMTC) when she's ending the song and BBJ is doing that rolling drum thing.  You know the fast foot pedal drum rolling thing.

How do people communicate when talking about drum parts?  I could say tuh-tuh-tuh-tuh and thum-thum-thum-thum  - but that gets difficult.  16th notes? 8th notes?

Nite.

Well as far as I know (I drum, but have never taken lessons) one listens to the song then comes up with the parts himself. I'm sure KY probably has a suggestion or something, but I'm sure he's just that talented to come up with all those phat beats himself.

I wish I knew the other lines I deciphered out of the end of Protestant. I had a good amount... words missing, yes, but had the gist.

Chrissy do you still have that email I sent with the line?

Here it is, James!

"This is the time when love is free
all you have to do is relationship sex
Lord God Communion
Obey said the Lord
Next day"

I still haven't been able to make out any of it except "this is the time--"

Those are just scattered words I got out of it. I could be totally wrong, of course.

I'm posting a couple of links to Andrea D'Aquino's websites.  She is the one who created the artwork on the cover of MFSHATOOL.  If you think you've never seen that font before, it's probably because it was taken from a combination of two font ideas and then painstakingly modified again.  Andrea also created the clever KY curtain logo.  It was obviously done with a lot of love.  (sorry to be cheezy, but you know.)

Excerpt from her news site:

May 23, 2009 Graphics created for KRISTEENYOUNG. The direction was for "art deco". After researching tons of vintage fonts, I found a great one, however, it still required some customizing to make it both modern and uniquely ownable by the rock duo. So in the end, each character was digitally altered, re-drawn, and re-designed to give it the space-age art deco feel that it has. With a suggestion of piano keys. Sort of Metropolis meets Stanley Kubrick, or something like that.....and so it became a font all it's own, not ever used by anyone else.

Hey, the album cover without text:

Ran across this while looking for bubble dress photos. Kind of cool. It pops up in blogs talking about "That's What It Takes, Dear" on its initial appearance.

Ooooh pretty. I like how the words on the skirt are shining through the darkness.
